Draft Summary <B>Summary of Draftees</B>
This 2007 draft features 8 MLB drafted in the first round. The draft was very much MLB stacked. But it wasn’t up to pick 14 that one was drafted.
Pick 1, Holmberg, BUF: For the second time in a row a defensive end was drafted in the first round. This LE is a good quality end, and it was projected by everybody he’d be first. He’s definitely going to make an impact on the Bills defence.
Pick 2, Van Hoosen, CLE: It’s a surprise Van Hoosen has been drafted this high. Cleveland should have traded down. Anyways, this Van Hoosen kid is grossly under-rated before the draft. He’s got what you need for a good quality DT. And seeing how Cleveland needed a DT, they got him. Van Hoosen was on my sleeper list, until Cleveland picked him up. Ignore the guys saying he’s going to be a bust, because he’s going to be a great DT.
Pick 3, Burke, SF: So SF have 3 really good quality QBs. Burke, Smith and Dilfer. Smith was a 1st pick, but has been sitting behind Dilfer who had an average season. Burke, coming off a great Oregon season, may be the one to lead SF. Or he may just sit on the bench and rot away.
Pick 4, Lazewski, OAK: This was the decision that shocked the nation. Lazewski, a great WR have been picked up by Oakland as a 3rd string WR, behind Moss and Porter. QB Brooks wasn’t good last year, getting a 69.5 passer rating. Porter may be traded to promote Lazewski’s depth chart position.
Pick 5, Williams, MIN: Minnesota drafted Williams. They just drafted Williamson with the 7th pick only 2 seasons ago. But they’ve decided he’s not a match, and have drafted Williams. He’s one of the quickest guys in the league. We’ll be seeing him as the Vikings’ next Moss. Kitna will be throwing to him, but Williams can make magic out of nothing, as seen in college at Maryland.
Pick 6, Douglas, NO: The Saints. The team with a lot of receiving guys, but no superstar. The Saints Organisation and Douglas think otherwise. After Horn’s gone, Stallworth will be 1st string. But Douglas is looking at 2nd string. They also drafted Hall in the 3rd round. Brees must be one happy man, with such good quality receivers.
Pick 7, Lira Jr, PIT: What did Pittsburgh do wrong? Use their first and second rounder on a 98 OVR guy. They drafted Lira Jr. and Bishop, and with Porter safely having the ROLB position. Lira Jr. would have been a great athlete, but he’ll definitely be rotting on the benches unless he gets traded. Bishop is also a great ROLB, who can also start for numerous teams.
Pick 8, Mason, CIN: What a great athlete Mason is. Being drafted at number 8 and you’re looking at the next Champ Bailey, and even better. If everything goes to plan, he’s going into the HOF. He’s going to learn well off O’Neal, and Cincinnati has everything set to become the next dynasty. There were better positions they needed to upgrade, but when they saw Mason so low they had to snap him up.
Pick 9, Corey, TEN: If you want to create tension in the QB position, you’re the Titans. Volek has boosted up his ratings heaps up. He may only have 1 year remaining on his contract, but that’s no reason to get Corey, especially after Young being drafted highly last year. They also drafted a QB in the 3rd round, Kaufman. Corey is a pocket QB, and Young is a scrambler. Somehow I may see them using 50/50 split time for their QB, one passer, one rusher. Still, Corey is wasted talent there.
Pick 10, Slater, NYG: Superbowl winning Giants. Eli now a 97 OVR. No holes in the team. Except for SS. And that’s where Slater comes in. He will do really well under this great team, and we’d expect him to be a valuable contributor at SS for the Giants. But basically trading Wilson, who had a great season and got into the pro bowl for him may not be good for the long term.
Pick 11, Robbins, TB: Robbins is a great RE, and will be in guidance of Simeon Rice. Unfortunately they upgraded a guy in a position that was already covered well. Their O-line is still crumbling, and their safeties aren’t doing any better. Definitely could have drafted another guy, who could do well and start for TB.
Pick 12, Persigner, CAR: Carolina had everyone getting great stats, while having a bad season. They only needed to upgrade one position, TE. Delhomme had an average season, while Foster had a near 2000 yard season, which closes any opportunity of Deangelo Williams getting valuable playing time. Delhomme will be looking at a great season next year with Persigner on the team. As we predict every year, Panthers will get into the playoffs.
Pick 13, Murphy, ARI: I don’t get the intentions of Arizona. Now having 6 LOLB on the team, which Murphy is one. He’s on the top of the list, and he’ll start while Banta-Cain will battle it out with Green. Their O-Line held alright this year, and they will be a strong team in a couple of seasons with Leinart on the helm.
Pick 14, Small, GB: Those Cheeseheads of Green Bay picked Small to replace Barnett, who is only 26. But small has great talent, with the best in the draft class. They were basically picking him up as he would do exceptionally well in the league with AJ Hawk at LOLB.
Pick 15, Lyons, DET: This has to be a typo. Detroit not getting a WR, and now getting an O-lineman. Lyons replaces Butler at RT, who let in 14 sacks over last season. But considering their QB is 73OVR Orlovsky, they may need to get a good QB to lead to victory again. Kitna and McCown are out of Detroit. Lyons, who is a balanced blocker, may need to become a running blocker.
Pick 16, Bryan, IND: Indianapolis gets this high quality MLB. Definitely better than Bracket in the long term. He is that leader that Indianapolis needs at linebacker. He will become on in the future. He’s got great guys at offence, and he’ll be hoping this team can get over .500 again.
Pick 17, McFarland, JAX: Jacksonville grab a MLB as well. Problem is he’s under Peterson, who got 150 tackles last season. McFarland may get some playing opportunity in this Jaguar team, which has a lot of talent. Jacksonville is grossly under-rated in defence, and everyone is great except for RE.
Pick 18, Russell, WAS: Russell is the guy they need at TE to make the Redskins a terrifying offence. Now with 3rd year Campbell at the helm, he will be looking to make an impression. Russell will be looking to be dominant at TE. A great offensive guy, shown at his times and Vanderbilt, especially under Cutler.
Pick 19, Looman, SD: Great choice by SD. With 36 year old Orlando Brown at RT, they decide Looman will be the RT of the future, and he can be. More of a pass blocker than run blocker, which greatly will help River’s development. He is grossly underrated.
Pick 20, Boner, DEN: Fabulous choice by Denver again. Boner was definitely a top 10 choice, and to see him go so low is terrifying. Such a good quality guy, and he’s landed at the team that needs him the most. Denver. Nick Ferguson is going down in quality, and Boner can only get better. He is the steal of the draft. He would have been perfect on other teams that passed on him.
Pick 21, Francis, CHI: A rookie MLB drafted in the first round while Urlacher is only 29. Bad decision. Francis has amazing skills, but will be wasted under Urlacher, who won’t lose the starting job. Chicago definitely doesn’t need a new guy at MLB, and need to work on their offence. A WR would be perfect for the team, but they didn’t get one.
Pick 22, Peterson, NE: Peterson will be 2nd SS, under Rodney Harrison, who had a pro bowl year. Peterson doesn’t have enough talent to be a 1st round pick. Definitely a WR would of suited NE, and the next drafted WR, Russell Russell would of loved Brady at QB.
Pick 23, Ballard, HOU: So Houston get a QB instead of LT, which their guy is 67 OVR. Fabulous. He’ll be racing it out with Collins for the starting spot. Carr is no more in Houston. Ballard can actually do well with Moulds and Johnson at WR, and with Dominic Davis at HB, who had a 1758 yard season with 26 TD. But we would have expected a LT. They didn’t draft one all draft.
Pick 24, Nichols, SEA: The only way Nichols would get playing time is at RT. He is 3rd in the depth chart, after Tobeck and Spencer, a former 1st rounder. Nichols is actually a great centre, after his days at Florida. He blocked well, and will be going to the other side of the country to be sitting on the bench.
Pick 25, Bates, DAL: Bates will definitely improve the Dallas safeties, with Coleman as current Fs. He’s 30, has the same overall as Bates, and can teach Bates a lot of things. Bates will be looking forward to partnering Roy Williams, one of the best safeties in the league.
Pick 26, Jones, KC: Jones is also a lacklustre DT, and is 4th in the depth chart. Doesn’t expect to start, but in a couple of years will rise up very quickly, with their starting DT being 34 years old, and 3rd DT is 32. KC has DT trouble, and Jones may rise up well if he needs to.
Pick 27, Fannin, PHI: So Philly join the grabbing MLB for fun squad. Fannin will be under Jeremiah Trotter, a fine guy at MLB. But Philly grabbed the best person they could at that situation, except for a WR. They needed a WR. They should have grabbed a WR. But Fannin may be the best guy they needed. Trotter will definitely teach him well, though.
Pick 28, Ware, SD: Chargers grab another O-lineman, which will be behind Goff on the depth chart. I cannot swear how much WR mean to a team, and they didn’t get one. They need one for Rivers to succeed. But Ware is a good quality lineman, and is a great run blocker, which helps the pass blocking RT. Goff is still the better lineman on both run and pass blocking, but I’m sure he’ll spare a few tips for Ware. Goff was a team captain last year.
Pick 29, Clinton, HB: Someone finally picks up a RB. Clinton has got big shoes to fill at New York, and he will do the job well. Stephen Davis will help him out, and they’ve got an impressive offensive line. I don’t see how he won’t be a great HB. Under-rated in the scouting charts, and will do well for the Jets.
Pick 30, Owens, ATL: Atlanta grabs another MLB. Hartwell will definitely get the MLB spot, but Owens may pitch in as a LOLB. He can start at LOLB. But we all know from college days in USC he does really well in MLB.
Pick 31, Teague, MIA: Teague again won’t start, and they’ve got Zach Thomas at MLB. But this was the right decision. Teague is an incredible guy, and Zach Thomas will make him an incredible guy. Will do very well in the league, and Teague may get to start in the near future.
Pick 32, Claiborne, NYG: Claiborne goes under Antonio Pierce. Giants could have chosen a DT, but considering there were none available, Claiborne was their choice. He will be sitting on the bench, with his talent being wasted.
Pick 43, Duvall, TB: Definitely will be second HB, behind 92 OVR Carnell ‘Cadillac’ Williams. Duvall will be in front of Pittman, but won’t start after Cadillac got a 1787 yard 17TD season. But he’ll definitely split time, and taking the job Pittman had.
Pick 46, Star, GB: Ahman Green completely boosted up his stats, and he’ll be happy that a young guy, Star is coming in to help him. GB’s o line is bad, and Favre is gone, so they’ll be emphasising on running. Star will get carries, but how much is a question.
